Graduate Certificate in Early Childhood Special Education
Develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to work successfully with inclusive Early Childhood Education (ECE) programs. Our Graduate Certificate program is for students who already have a master’s degree in ECE, early childhood special education (ECSE) or a related field.
Our program trains you to work within public schools, private programs, and community agencies that serve families with children with developmental delays and disabilities. You’ll learn how to problem solve and collaborate with others to make decisions that support positive social-emotional, cognitive, physical, communication, and academic outcomes for special needs children aged birth to eight years.

Program Requirements
You’ll need to complete 24-quarter credit hours. You must also complete 600 hours of practicum and successfully pass the PRAXIS II Elementary Education Exam or PLACE Exam.
Upon completion of the program, you can apply for an Early Childhood Special Education Specialist Endorsement through the Colorado Department of Education (CDE). Our ESCE Graduate Certificate program is in the process of becoming a university-approved program by the CDE. If you want to pursue endorsement in a state other than Colorado, contact the state’s Board of Education to determine whether the program meets endorsement requirements.
